Global leadership development is a key human resource issue but existing knowledge is limited. Not only is there remarkably little primary research in the area, but also the research that does exist has been criticized for its lack of methodological diversity and intellectual rigor. Academics have identified a wide research agenda including the need to understand what is required of global leaders and the personal competencies necessary for effective global leadership. This research set out to understand what is required for effective global leadership in an increasingly complex global marketplace through understanding the challenges that global organisations and leaders face. It sought to identify how global organisations can develop and support effective leadership.
